How to Find Missouri Marriage Records
Missouri marriage records are state-issued documents certifying marriages solemnized in the state as valid. Marriage records from July 1948 till date are maintained by the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records of the Department of Health & Senior Services (DHSS). Marriage records before this date are maintained by the Offices of Recorders of Deeds in the counties where the marriage approvals were first provided.

A marriage license is issued by the Recorder of Deeds in each Missouri county and is valid only in Missouri. Marriage license applicants are not required to be Missouri residents. Both must appear in person before the recorder of deeds or a deputy recorder and present valid identification containing date of birth, along with a Social Security card, to apply for a marriage license.
